Turkey Meatballs

I have always loved spaghetti and meatballs.  I used to make them with ground beef and fry them in olive oil.  Those meatballs were delicious but certainly not the most healthy.  I now make my meatballs using lean ground turkey meat.  However,  if I am having company I tend to use the fattier ground turkey…the meatballs easily pass for the beef meatballs that I used to make.

Here is what you need:  1 lb ground turkey, 1 egg, 1/2 cup grated romano cheese, 1/2 cup breadcrumbs, 4 cloves garlic (chopped), 1 tablespoon chopped fresh basil (or 1 teaspoon dried), 1/2 teaspoon sea salt, 2 tablespoons water

Here is what you do:  Combine all of the ingredients in a large bowl.  Mix thoroughly. 

Turn oven on to broil.  Form into meatballs of your desired size.  I make them small because that is what the kids prefer.  Place the meatballs on a cookie sheet. 

Place into oven.  I usually cook them 15 minutes, turning once, until they are lightly browned and somewhat crispy.  This replaces the step where I used to fry them in oil!  Remove the meatballs from the oven. 

Place the meatballs into a pot of spaghetti sauce.  Allow the meatballs to simmer for at least an hour.  Serve over spaghetti noodles.
