How to Make Elderberry Gummies

Elderberry syrup is a staple in our herbal medicine cabinet.  We are aware of the many benefits of elderberry and understand the importance of taking it to help us remain healthy.  Alex looks forward to taking the syrup and especially loves it warm.  My girls however, aren’t huge fans of the syrup.  Due to their dislike of taking the syrup I decided to get creative.  I jumped into the kitchen and made elderberry gummies.

After I whipped up my first batch of elderberry gummies I held my breath as I gave a gummy to each girl.   They both liked them!   Finally, my girls are able to receive the benefits of elderberry and actually enjoy it!

Benefits of Elderberry

At times I would like to hibernate to avoid the many opportunities to pick up these germs but that is totally unrealistic as we have a very busy homeschooling life.  So, instead of hibernating we all take elderberry syrup and gummies to stimulate our immune systems.

Elderberry  works great to boost your immune system.   Elderberries contain vitamins A, B, and C, which are great in helping your body stay healthy.  The bioflavonoids in elderberry boost the body’s immune system by increasing antioxidant levels.

Of course, I cannot guarantee that we won’t find ourselves sick.  In this case it is great to have elderberry on-hand because it will speed our recovery time.

Elderberry can help you maintain optimal health and even help you if you are ill….now on to how to make elderberry syrup and gummies!

How to Make Elderberry Syrup

The first think you need to do is obtain elderberries.  I hope to grow my own one day, but until then these are the berries that I use.

Making elderberry syrup is easy!  There are two different methods that I use for making this syrup (click on the method for the recipe & detailed instructions):

  1. Elderberry syrup in a saucepan
  2. Instant Pot elderberry syrup

Both methods result in a delicious and nutritious elderberry syrup.  This syrup is the base for making elderberry gummies.

Making elderberry gummies is almost as easy as making the syrup.

What you need:

What you do:

First, use the coconut oil to grease your molds.  Audrey was my assistant in the kitchen while making the gummies. 🙂

Next, you will make your gummie mixture.

Pour 1/4 cup of elderberry syrup into a mixing bowl.  Sprinkle 3 tbsp. of gelatin over top of surface and allow to bloom for 5 minutes.  Allowing the gelatin to bloom helps to create a smooth consistency.

Pour 1/4 cup of VERY HOT water (but not boiling) into bowl and whisk quickly until gelatin is completely dissolved. Then pour in remaining 1/4 cup of elderberry syrup.

Using a dropper, place the mixture into the molds.

Place the molds into the refrigerator for at least 2 hours then store them in an airtight container in the refrigerator. Enjoy!!
