Field Trip Friday: McLarty Treasure Museum

We are finishing up learning about pirates….for now.   We visited the Fischer Treasure Museum last week.  This week we visited the McLarty Treasure Museum in Melbourne Beach.  We are very lucky to live on the ‘treasure coast’ of Florida!

The McLarty treasure museum is smaller than the Fischer Museum BUT all of the finds that are on display have been found right there on the beach.

Alex really enjoyed learning about the early settlers and the Ais Indians.

Ava loved this painting!

Taking a break.

On the observation overlook.

The museum is located just south of the Sebastian River Inlet.  After we visited the museum we simply had to visit one of our favorite places…the tide pool!

The kids found a bunch of creatures.  The caught, and later released, different types of crabs, fish, and even a baby lobster!

We had a blast, it was an awesome field trip Friday!

I love homeschooling.

McLarty Treasure Museum is fantastic! I especially love the film they have running on a loop – loads of great information.

The kids really liked it. I didn’t realize that all of the treasure on display had been found on that beach…not imported from elsewhere!
